Linea Launches Direct ETH staking with Lido

In a major development, Ethereum Layer-2 network Linea launches direct ETH staking with Lido finance powered by Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). The new feature enables users to stake ETH directly on Linea and instantly receive wrapped staked ETH (wstETH) all in a single transaction, without the need for cross-chain bridging.

The integration represents a significant step forward in simplifying Ethereum staking across multiple chains, combining Lido’s liquid staking protocol, Linea’s zkEVM scalability, and Chainlink’s secure interoperability to deliver a seamless staking experience.

A New Era of Onchain Staking Simplicity

Until now, users holding ETH on Layer-2 networks like Linea had to go through a tedious, multi-step process to obtain wstETH bridging assets to Ethereum mainnet, staking through Lido, and bridging back again. With Linea’s new Direct Staking, this entire process has been condensed into one transaction.

That means no more waiting for bridges, no reliance on centralized exchanges, and no manual transfers between networks. In short, staking ETH and receiving wstETH is now as easy as a single click.

According to Linea, this new feature is already live and accessible through XSwap, OpenOcean, and Interport, with plans for wider integration across the Linea DeFi ecosystem in the coming months.

Chainlink CCIP Behind the Scenes

The magic behind Linea’s new staking experience lies in Chainlink CCIP, a cross-chain protocol that allows both tokens and instructions to move between chains atomically ensuring that staking and token minting happen in one unified transaction.

Direct Staking on Linea supports two core modes

Liquidity Pool-Based Staking Users deposit ETH and instantly receive wstETH from a liquidity pool at a rate verified by Chainlink Data Feeds. In the background, the ETH is bridged to Ethereum mainnet, staked via Lido, and the resulting wstETH is sent back to Linea to rebalance the pool.

On-Demand Staking ETH is transmitted cross-chain to Ethereum using CCIP, staked through Lido’s smart contracts, and the newly minted wstETH is returned directly to the user’s Linea wallet.

Both methods are fully compatible with Lido’s existing contracts, making the setup secure, modular, and extendable to future chains.

Why Chainlink CCIP Matters

Chainlink’s CCIP is currently the only interoperability protocol offering Level-5 cross-chain security, featuring additional protection through its Risk Management Network. Its Programmable Token Transfers allow ETH and transaction instructions to travel together across chains a necessary component for Linea’s one-step staking system.

Complementing CCIP, Chainlink Data Feeds ensure accurate and tamper-proof wstETH exchange rates, while Chainlink Automation handles backend processes like liquidity management and transaction batching, further reducing gas fees and maintaining system efficiency.

Expanding the wstETH Ecosystem on Linea

This launch not only simplifies staking but also strengthens Linea’s DeFi ecosystem by embedding Lido’s liquid staking token directly into its infrastructure. With lower gas fees, instant transactions, and native yield-bearing assets, users can now interact with wstETH more fluidly across DeFi protocols without leaving Linea.

Developers, too, benefit from Linea’s zkEVM framework, which supports easy integration of wstETH across DeFi platforms, lending markets, and liquidity pools. The move marks another step toward a multi-chain Ethereum staking future one where accessibility and efficiency go hand in hand.
