$2.6 Billion Binance Whale Profit Triggers Bitcoin Dip — What Comes Next?”

Updated: Jul 4

Key Highlights

  • Bitcoin faces massive profit taking with holders offloading $2.46 billion

  • Bitcoin long-term holders are aggressively selling, driving profit-taking

With Bitcoin holding firmly above $ 105,000, while it hovers around $ 107,000, holders are taking the opportunity to cash out. Thus, Bitcoin's recent price action reveals that profit-taking is back in full swing, and it's being led by the most prominent players in the market.

Bitcoin Faces A Wave of Profits

According to Glassnode data, Bitcoin holders collectively locked in $2.46 billion in profits in a single day. After this dumping, it pushed the 7-day average of realized profits to $1.52 billion.

This level is well above the yearly average of $1.14 billion, showing that traders are increasingly cashing out as prices rise. However, it’s still below the $4–5 billion weekly peaks seen during the late 2024 bull run.

This profit realization was mostly driven by mid- to long-term holders. As per Glassnode, BTC aged 3–5y realized $849 Million, followed by 7–10y at $485 Million, and 1–2y at $445 Million. Short-term holders (<6m) played a much smaller role.

This implies that long-term holders have turned to profit realization. With LTH's profit margin still elevated, it makes sense to turn to profit realization.

This shows that although prices are elevated, holders and investors are not selling as much. The current selling activity is regular and strategic repositioning.

Binance Whales Take Center Stage

Amid the rising selling activity, Binance whales are mostly aggressive. For example, on June 16, Binance recorded its second-largest realized profit ever, a jaw-dropping $2.6 billion in BTC profits.

This accounted for nearly 58% of all profits realized across centralized exchanges that day.

Following this wave of profit-taking, prices dropped to $105,800 as the market reacted instantly to the sell pressure. Large holders, likely institutions or high-net-worth investors, took advantage of strong prices to lock in gains.

What does it mean for BTC?

While BTC still sits in a high range, this spike in realized profits could be a sign that some of the most prominent players are reducing risk or rotating out of positions.

If history is any guide, such moves tend to cool off short-term rallies or even mark local tops.

That said, the market remains dynamic. If these profit-takers re-enter at lower levels, it could set the stage for renewed upward momentum.
